BONNET STYLE HAT TEAR DIRECTIONS
EFFECT
The magician proceeds to rip a sheet of paper into smaller and smaller bits, forming them into a ball. Then he unfolds the ball to reveal a paper hat, with the ball of paper being the flower for the front of the hat. This newly created hat can then be given out as a party gift or favor.
SETUP
Start by showing the audience the 2 sheets of paper. All while keeping the black sheet towards your chest and the colored sheet facing the audience. Also take notice of the “secret pocket” located on the black sheet, the pocket should be held close to your right hand.
STEP 1:
Holding the papers horizontally, tear the paper down the middle. Give the half without the “secret pocket” to your assistant (spectator, audience member, etc.) and then ask them to participate using the sheets of paper.
STEP 3:
Now turn the rectangular sheet sideways and tear the left end of the rectangle. In doing so you should again tear at the “secret pocket” to make it open on 2 sides. Then place the torn pieces of paper in front of all the other sheets.
STEP 2:
Holding the half in your hand while keeping the packet on the right side, proceed to rip the paper in half again. In doing so, you should rip the sheet so that it opens the packet vertically. After ripping the sheet again, place the sheets of paper held in the left hand in front of the sheets and “secret pocket” held in your right hand.
STEP 4:
Finally begin to crumple the papers into a ball and open the “secret pocket” so that it closes around the crumpled ball of paper. Now the hat should be visible to you (the magician), and not visible to the audience. Begin to unfold the hat, the ball of paper should now act as a flower for the front of the hat and the trick is complete.
The hat can now be given as a party favor to the audience member!
